The Boston skyline is changing so fast it can be hard to keep up. But fear not- we’ve got you covered. Here are the eight biggest developments you should be watching in Boston this year:
The newest addition to the Boston skyline: Millennium Tower
- Millennium Tower- Opening later this year, it will (for a short time) be the tallest residential building in the Boston skyline. Seems like just yesterday we were watching the foundation being laid from our office on the 26th floor…
- Four Seasons Hotel in Back Bay- Think upscale condos meet Four Seasons Hotel. When it is completed in 2017, it will usurp M-tower as the tallest residential building in Boston. You had a good run, M-tower.
- Washington Village in Andrew Square- Still in the early stages of planning, Washington Village will be home to more affordable condos and apartments, as well as retail space with plenty of parking. While it likely won’t be open for several more years, approval from the city is expected later this year.
- Seaport Square- Covering 23 acres and connecting several Boston neighborhoods, Seaport Square is one of the largest development projects seen in Boston recently. Phase two of the project is slated to begin this year which will add to the already thriving Innovation District completed in phase one. By adding roads, greenways, sidewalks, and residential and commercial space, Seaport Square hopes to completely revitalize the once desolate area.
- The Viola- The date to break ground is still a while out on this Mass Ave / Boylston St lot, but current plans include condos and apartments, a four star hotel, retail space, and two public plazas. The project also plans to incorporate major renovations of the Hynes Convention Center T stop, which will be encompassed by the development.
- The Hub at Causeway- Phase One of this project is currently underway and when completed will include an expansion of TD Garden, North Station renovations, open outdoor space, a movie theater, grocery store, and residential / retail / commercial space.
- Parcel 1B- While it may not make the list of largest developments around town, it might be one of the more pivotal ones. This is because the proposal includes plans for a hotel, parking and residential building with a significant number of affordable single family units. In a city scrambling to cover the affordable housing deficit, Parcel 1B could be a big step in filling the gap.
- Dot Block- Dorchester’s newest multi-building development is projected to include 450 condos and apartment, parking, and 40,000sf of retail. Final approval could come in the Spring with ground breaking as early as this Summer. This kind of multi-use project is being hailed as the future of Greater Boston development.
